Frequently Asked Questions about Supa Lock™

According to which standard is Supa Lock™ designed?

There are no standards for this type of product, it is our own patented design. We have though been referring to the EN545 and EN14525 during our development, and have tested according to the test requirements in these two standards, which are applicable to Supa Lock™.

Which approvals do the products have?

Since there are no standards, it is not possible to apply for one of the wellknown approvals such as DVGW. But we have carried out our own tests, see tests here:
- Lifetime test of the joint, made by Wavin
- Internal design test
, verified by DTI (Danish Technological Institute)
- Furthermore, the epoxy coating is approved by GSK, and all rubber components are drinking water approved.

How much deflection can the joint withstand?

As the sealing capability of the Supa Lock is dependent on rubber compression, we have ensured to design it with heavy duty O-rings which can handle full deflection in all worst case scenarios.

You state that 360°rotation is possible, why is that relevant?

Our fittings can be mounted in any position, and this is a big advantage for example for the 90° bend when the space in the trench is limited, since it you can avoid collision with e.g. other pipes. However, the valves and adaptors for drilling machines are designed with rotation prevention to prevent rotation during the drilling process.

What happens if the e.g. the thin part of socket end gets damaged?

The design of the safety retainer is made so that it covers more than half of the retainer groove. This secures the retaining function even if this part is broken off.

What happens if the safety retainer breaks or gets lost?

It is made of POM and is highly durable, also at very low and high temperatures. However, if it should break or get lost, then the retainers are available as spare parts.

You talk about O-rings and safety retainer, I don’t see that on the picture of the tapping saddles and spacer?

The O-rings are placed on the spigot end of valves and fittings. We have also chosen to place the safety retainer on the spigot end, but you will need to take this off in order to assemble two Supa Lock™ products. Please see instruction video and animation.

How many times can Supa Lock™ products be assembled before the O-rings are getting deformed? Can they be deformed over time?

This will never be an issue with Supa Lock™, since the heavy duty Ø7 mm O-rings provide a lot of passive safety.

How do I carry out drilling by means of the Supa Lock™ system?

Please see instruction video. You will need a Supa Lock™ threaded connector to connect to your drilling machine.

Which types of hot tapping machines are suitable for drilling through Supa Lock™ valves and fittings?

When using a Supa Lock™ threaded connector, most standard hot tapping machines can be used on the Supa Lock™.

Do other types of fittings fit into the Supa Lock™ tapping saddles and valves?

Only Supa Lock™ fittings fit into Supa Lock™ tapping saddles and valves, but we offer a wide range of fittings that we believe cover most needs.

Can it be mounted in minus degrees?

We have tested assembling down to -25°C, and there were no problem with the joint. The products are suitable for temperatures between -10°C and +70°C
